This session is for anyone aged 10-16 yrs wanting to get fitter and stronger (we promise we won't make you run!). Girls will follow a closely supervised small group strength training programme, developed specifically for young people by qualified instructors. Sessions will focus on building strength with controlled movements, with emphasis on proper technique and training safely. Girls will develop increased muscle strength, endurance, stronger bones.
Other side effects include increased self-confidence, new friendships and feeling like you can take over the world!
Why the Strong Girls Club?
The Strong Girls Club is a safe and welcoming place for girls to express themselves and become empowered through exercise. We create an environment that enables girls to connect with each other while becoming physically and mentally strong.
We want girls to learn that no matter who they are or what they look like, they deserve to believe in themselves.
We are friends, work colleagues and training buddies. We share a passion for weight lifitng and mental health and we are both mothers of girls. We created the Strong Girls Club because we think there needs to be somewhere girls can feel safe and supported to fall in love with exercise and their bodies doing stuff they usually don't get to do. We know how powerful it can be to create a tribe of like minded females supporting each other and building friendships, and that's what we have created in the Strong Girls Club.
We also believe that the current mental health epidemic in young people is worrying, and we have created 'Girls Lifted' - a programme that supports young people to talk about their feelings outside a clinical counselling session, free from diagnosis and formal service structures.
We know that one of the biggest barriers for girls when starting something new is coming along on their own. So, our Thursday Strength Camp is for girls to train alongside their grown up. Mums, dads, aunties, uncles, older sisters and brothers are all welcome, as long as there is one girl aged between the age of 10 and 16 for every adult.
If the heaviest thing you have ever lifted is the weekly shop, that's fine with us, all abilities are welcome.
This is a specially designed 8 week rolling programme for 10-16 year old girls, combining interventions to support the improvement of physical and mental health. The programme incorporates an introduction to weight training with a range of group activity sessions which use cognitive behavioural therapy to increase resillience and create a safe space for girls to explore a variety of different topics.
